The Gigaset GL390, a new smartphone for seniors, comes with an SOS button

Whether at the age of 30, 50 or 70 – being able to communicate in a connected world is vital, at home or on the road. Gigaset will launch its first smartphone for seniors, the GL390, at the beginning of August. As a result, it is not only entering a new market, but also complementing the Gigaset life series and so enhancing the mobility of elderly people. With its large keys and clearly legible display, the compact device is the perfect companion for all life situations. The orange SOS button guarantees rapid assistance in an emergency and so delivers a crucial piece of security.

The new Gigaset GL390 in titanium silver

Tailored to the 60+ target group

Almost 18 million people in Germany are above 65. Many of them also want to remain mobile and be able to reached in their old age. The new Gigaset GL390 now makes that easy. The smart phone is particularly handy, is easy to use and has a timeless titanium silver look. The 2.2-inch color display, a camera for snapshots, FM radio, alarm, calculator and torch round out the appealing package and meet all the needs of users in this age category. Like a fixed-line phone, the GL390 is quick and easy to charge by placing it in the charging station that comes with the device – there is no need to search for a cable or – a problem for elderly hands – to connect it up to the small micro USM port. The smartphone rarely needs to be charged thanks to its long talk times of up to 9 hours and the extra-long battery life of around 550 hours.

The internal memory can be increased by 32 GB with a microSD card – enough for many photos of family and friends, as well as countless hours of enjoyment listening to music or audio books. The phone also has a dual SIM slot that can hold two SIM cards at the same time – an exciting feature for non-seniors who mainly want a device for voice communication and therefore do not need a smartphone.

“Gigaset has been observing the process of demographic change very closely and gearing its products to that for years. We’ve already established an extensive portfolio of cordless phones for the elderly,” states Anne Dickau, SVP Products at Gigaset. “Our life series groups all these products in one thematically-linked category. It’s only logical for us to expand our portfolio with the first smartphone for seniors and so branch out into the mobile sector.”

Compact and convenient

With its dimensions of 130x64x14 millimeters and lean form, the Gigaset GL390 fits into any waistcoat pocket. The clearly labeled, extra-large and separated keys make using it easy. The keypad’s backlighting improves legibility in poor lighting conditions. The integrated torch, which can be turned on and off by means of a side button, helps shed light in the dark. The ringtone and call volumes can be set to “very high,” ensuring users can hear when the phone is ringing and understand calls perfectly. The GL390 also boasts hearing aid compatibility.

SOS button delivers security

The three speed dial keys (A, B, C) directly below the display can be used to call important numbers, such as for doctors, relatives or public authorities, right away without the need to search for them in the phone book. And the Gigaset GL390 has a three-fold highlight with the SOS button on its rear. Up to five numbers can be stored under it and dialed automatically one after the other – until someone answers and can provide or send help. Automated SMSs with a freely definable information or emergency call text can be sent at the touch of a button. It is also possible to set the phone so that an alarm is triggered when the SOS button is pressed so as to catch the attention of people in the direct vicinity.

The Gigaset GL390 goes on sale at stores and online retailers and in the Gigaset online shop at the RRP of €49.99 at the beginning of August 2019.
