Why green technology helps promote efficient consumption

On the spanish World Energy Saving Day, Gigaset details how responsible devices and technology contribute to more sustainable habits

Responsible consumption is becoming more and more internalised in people’s consciousness, especially if it is focused on saving electricity in the home. Concern about the cost of bills, coupled with social commitment, has led consumers to seek new, more environmentally friendly habits. Thanks to innovation, green technology plays a fundamental role in contributing to the energy efficiency of homes: it manages to increase savings in energy supply, reduces transmission power and is designed under sustainable criteria.

To mark Energy Saving Day, which is celebrated every 21 October in Spain, we will highlights the factors that are positioning green technology and efficient systems as healthier infrastructures with great convenience benefits for the home.

  • Savings of up to 60% in energy supply: This is one of the greatest benefits offered, for example, by telephony with ECO DECT technology, which improves both energy savings and the reduction of consumption and transmission power. Thus, the incorporation of this type of technology makes it possible to reduce energy consumption by up to 60% compared to conventional telephones, and its power supply is even designed to reduce power consumption by 2 watts. In addition, the system minimises the transmitting power of all handsets registered to the base station. This prevents the base station from emitting radiation while the handset is being used wirelessly.
  • Energy efficiency with lighting and temperature control: Smart technology has been put at the service of sustainability. The use of smart devices makes it possible to adapt the switching on and off of lighting, control the temperature in a regulated and simple way, and detect the opening of doors and windows. This practice, facilitated by smart thermostats and sensors, helps homes to adopt the exact temperature in each room, ensuring energy efficiency and savings, as well as reducing gas and electricity bills.
  • Favouring the circular economy thanks to sustainable production: Ecological awareness in technology must start from the very process of manufacturing the product, developed with more environmentally friendly materials, free of lead and without wasting raw materials. In this production work, companies should advocate saving electricity in the factories and the commitment to the repair of reusable devices and components. In this way, they are also involved in the circular economy and are committed to reducing planned obsolescence. This is something that is already being done at all levels of Gigaset and can even be seen in the packaging of solutions, which is made with packaging composed of more than 90% recycled material in order to reduce CO2 emissions.
