A look behind the scenes: What does a Product Manager do at Gigaset?

13. April 2022 Published by Raphael Doerr

What does a Product Manager actually do? What does their day-to-day work look like and what are the tasks of a product manager at Gigaset? In our new video series, the Gigaset colleagues themselves explain and take us along into their exciting job. In the next video in our series, Marcus Kluth provides insights into the day-to-day work of a product manager in the Phones division at Gigaset and explains how the call block works on Gigaset phones and how this feature can protect users against scams like the grandchild scam.

As Product Manager in the Phones segment at Gigaset, Marcus Kluth’s first task is to gather information from the markets, such as price points, design and features. An idea for a new product is developed taking into account the entire portfolio and the current market requirements. The Gigaset E720, for example, was born from precisely these two criteria:

“We have noticed that customers are willing to spend a lot of money for a product that really offers them solutions. The predecessor of the E720 was originally only intended for the Elderly market, but we realised that it was bought by people who simply wanted a simple and comfortable phone. This thought led to the E720, which we then designed for the Elderly market, but which is also attractive for other comfort-oriented users,” explains Marcus Kluth.

The Gigaset E720 is equipped with a call blocker that protects older users in particular from dubious calls and scams. With Call Block, unwanted calls are automatically suppressed by the device. The feature can be set so that only numbers stored in the internal phone book are put through and all other numbers are suppressed. In this way, users can protect themselves, for example, against the well-known grandchild scam, in which fraudsters usually call elderly people and pretend to be their grandchildren. Often the victims are then asked to transfer large sums of money for their supposed grandchildren to foreign accounts. Exactly these unwanted calls are intercepted with the Call Block feature, which can be activated under the menu item “Contacts” > “Put only known callers through”.
